A search team located Smallwood’s remains Wednesday morning near where some of his belongings were found, Santa Cruz County Sheriff Tony Estrada told the Arizona Daily Star.

The newspaper reports a hiker located a fanny pack belonging to Smallwood Tuesday which prompted officials to lead another search this morning.

Smallwood was an Ohio resident who was staying in Arizona when he went missing. Rescue teams were unable to find him after a week-long search.

Recovery efforts in February were complicated due to weather conditions, where several inches of snow fell and temperatures were around 12 degrees, according to the newspaper.
