Riverside announces new city manager

RIVERSIDE — The city of Riverside announced the appointment of a new city manager.

Riverside City Council voted on October 5 to approve Tom Smith as the new city manager.

Smith will be sworn in on October 19 during the city council meeting.

“Following a thorough City Manager search and an extensive interview process involving several highly qualified candidates, we are excited to welcome Tom to the City of Riverside,” said Mayor Pete Williams. “His professional experience, education, and commitment to our community make him an excellent fit for this important role. We are confident he will provide strong leadership and serve the residents of Riverside well.”

Smith previously served as the Assistant City Manager of the city of Loveland, Ohio, and brought local government experience along with him.

Additionally, Smith was Community and Economic Development Director for the city of Middletown and Director of Development for the city of Monroe.

He also worked for two years as Assistant City Manager for South Weber City, Utah.

Smith graduated with a Bachelor of Science at Utah Valley University and his Master of Public Administration at Utah University in 2013.

“I am excited to begin working in Riverside and bring my prior experience to the City Manager position,” said Tom Smith. “My commitment to public service will allow me to make a meaningful contribution to Riverside as we continue building on the progress and success of this community.”

“I look forward to working alongside our elected officials, staff, and community members as we build on that progress and work together to realize the many opportunities ahead of Riverside,” Smith said.

Smith is a current member of the International City/Council Management Association (ICMA), the Ohio City/County Management Association, the American Planners Association, and the Ohio Municipal League.

He is an ICMA Credentialed Manager and graduated from the Center for Local Government Leadership Academy in 2019.
