New Year’s Eve: Events planned around the Miami Valley

MIAMI VALLEY — Cities across the country are getting ready to ring in New Year, but some celebrations are being canceled amid the rapid spread of the new Omicron variant of the coronavirus.

Here’s a list of New Year’s Eve celebrations that are canceled and some that are still going forward.

  • Dayton- The Yellow Cab Tavern will be hosting the 4th annual New Year’s Eve Ball Drop with a Silent Disco on December 31st. The business, located in downtown Dayton, says it will be hosting a complimentary midnight bubbly toast and the ball drop as the clock strikes 12 p.m. For more information on the event, click here.
  • New Carlisle- A New Year’s Eve Ball Drop is scheduled for downtown New Carlisle from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. According the the event page, there will be free horse drawn carriage rides, live ice sculpting, cold hard cash giveaway, hotdogs, hot chocolate, music and more.
  • Piqua- The city’s New Year’s Firework Show is scheduled to begin at midnight on Dec. 31, 2021. The fireworks will be located in the Northest range of town. The city said in a release that if you are unable to see them from your home, you will also be able to tune into the show on the city’s Facebook page. City officials said test fireworks will be launched at 9 p.m., 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. for the community members to determine if they are viewable from their locations.
