Richmond Police Department asking community for help raising funds to purchase new K9

RICHMOND, Ind. — The Richmond Police Department is reaching out to the community for help raising funds for a new addition to its K9 program.

“The current cost of purchasing a new K9 and the training for the dog and handler has reached $18,500.00. We have raised $6,000.00 currently from a large and generous donation.” the police department said.

The police department says they recently retired their K9 Max at the end of 2021, and they now have three K9s and their handlers within the patrol division. Each Patrol shift has a K9 assigned to it.

“Our K9s are trained to detect narcotics, track suspects and lost persons, as well as protect our Officers,” the police department said.

Anyone with questions about how to help can contact the Chief’s Office at 765-983-7259 or email mbritt@richmondindiana.gov.
