WATCH: Man back in custody after reportedly running from detective while handcuffed

A man is back in police custody after he reportedly fled from a Dayton police detective while he was handcuffed Tuesday afternoon.

Our crew observed police capture the man after he jumped into the Great Miami River around 2:20 p.m.

According to initial reports, the man ran from officers at the Montgomery County Jail.

His identity was not immediately known.

“The person taken into custody near the Great Miami River today is part of an open Dayton Police Department Violent Crimes Bureau investigation. Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, we cannot release further details,” Dayton police said in a prepared statement.
