Suspect in SWAT standoff found dead from apparent self inflicted gunshot after injuring mother

MORAINE — UPDATE @ 4:45 p.m. (Nov. 5):

Moraine Police has confirmed that the suspect in Wednesday’s SWAT standoff was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to a release from Moraine police, the suspect, Nicholas Pearson, 36, had barricaded himself inside his mother’s residence after apparently shooting his mother in the back multiple times.

INITIAL REPORT:

A four and a half-hour long standoff ended early Thursday morning after police were first called to a reported shooting at a Moraine house Wednesday night.

Officers and medics were first called to a shooting reported around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday at a home in the 2800 block of Cadillac Street in Moraine.

Investigators said the shooting was related to a domestic dispute and one victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Police and SWAT units surrounded the house after the shooting and were involved in a hours-long standoff with the suspected shooting suspect.

The standoff ended around 2 a.m. Thursday however it was not immediately known if the suspect was taken into custody or injured.

Police are expected to released additional details on the incident Thursday morning.
