The accident was reported around 6:15 p.m. in the 3500 block of Houston Road near Spring Valley.

Spring Valley Twp. Fire Chief Rusty Cross said the man was mowing around a pond when somehow the mower slid into the pond.

The man, whose name was not released, was deceased when crews arrived, Cross said.

With recent rain, it’s possible the ground was soggy, Cross said, but the cause of the accident is under investigation.
