Edward Stoffregen, 74 from Somerville and Katrina Potter, 39, from Eaton, were identified as the victims killed, state troopers said in a media release.

The crash was reported around 1:10 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 127 at Mann Road.

A preliminary investigation found a historical tractor trailer cab, driven by Stoffregren, was traveling north on U.S. 127. Other vehicles traveling north slowed for a stopped vehicle that was attempting to turn left onto Mann Road, state troopers said.

Stoffregren was not able to slow down in time and drove left of center to avoid the stopped traffic, crashing head-on into a Chevrolet Avalanche driven by Potter.

Both Stoffregren and Potter were pronounced dead at the scene.

Two 8-year-old children in Potter’s SUV were transported to Dayton Children’s Hospital and were listed in stable condition, state troopers said.

Alcohol or drug use is not suspected in the crash.

Additional details were not released.
