Pending divorce leads to nearly 8-hour standoff in Dayton that ends in arrest

UPDATE @ 11:20 p.m.: 

A 47-year-old man is being taken to jail, where he'll be detained pending the filing of domestic violence charges stemming from the nearly 8-hour-long standoff on Larch Tree Court, Dayton Police Maj. Chris Malson said.

Police were dispatched to the home just before 3 p.m. on a call about a burglary in progress. The call came from the man's wife, who accused him of breaking into the house, Malson said.

The standoff that developed ended about 10:15 p.m. when police talked him into coming out and arrested him.

When as many as 15 police vehicles first arrived, the man identified as Jonathan Dunham made threats toward the woman and also threatened to commit suicide by cop.

SWAT and a police Hostage Negotiation Team were called just before 5 p.m. Neighborhood residents were told to shelter in place for their own safety. Police closed Saddleridge Circle and Berrywood Drive to traffic as the standoff wore on.

The woman was never detained against her will at any point, the major said, and police are still investigating to determine whether the man had a firearm or other weapon in the house.

Dunham and the woman are getting a divorce, Malson said, and that's what led to the 9-1-1 call and subsequent standoff.

No injuries were reported.
