Reimbursements available after ArriveSafe reached voucher limit over St. Patrick’s Day weekend

MONTGOMREY COUNTY — The Montgomery County Prosecutor says his office ran out of vouchers for their ArriveSafe program over St. Patrick’s Day weekend.

Prosecutor Mat Heck, Jr. posted on social media Saturday that his office was informed that the maximum number of authorized vouchers with Uber had been reached.

News Center 7′s Mike Campbell learned Monday that the program was so popular that the 850 paid vouchers ran out.

Now, the prosecutor’s office is offering to reimburse anyone who had to pay for their ride home.

“If anyone is unable to obtain a free Uber ride using out voucher, please submit documentation to my office and we will reimburse you for your Uber ride,” Heck said.

As of Monday afternoon, 10 people had already mailed in their receipts.

“We’re going to do that, we pay for it out of money seized from drug dealers,” Heck told News Center 7. “So it’s not taxpayer expense.”

The ArriveSafe program was started 15 years ago for certain holidays. In that time, the program has provided more than 10,000 free and safe rides home to Montgomery County residents.

“One never knows how many lives we’ve saved or how many people we kept from being injured,” Heck said.
