Reds pregame festivities: What to expect for Opening Day

CINCINNATI — Today is the 146th Opening Day for the Cincinnati Reds as they take on the Cleveland Guardian this afternoon.

Gates will open to the public at 2:10 p.m. with pregame ceremonies starting at 3:30 p.m., according to a press release from the MLB.

The game will start at 4:10 p.m. with Cincinnati Bengals’ head coach Zac Taylor and quarterback Joe Burrow throwing the ceremonial first pitch.

2021 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Ja’Marr Chase will join Reds General Manager Nick Krall and Reds Manager David Bell to give the second baseman Jonathan India his 2021 National League Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year Award.

More opening day ceremonies include:

  • National Anthem will be performed by Marlana VanHoose from Denver, Kentucky
  • The Cincinnati Fire Department will unfurl a 150 by 300 foot American flag in the outfield during the National Anthem.
  • Representatives from the Findlay Market will make their annual “Findlay Market Basket” presentation to Reds President and COO Phil Castellini.

Along with its annual basket, the Findlay Market will hold their opening day parade.

The longtime voice of the Cincinnati Reds, Marty Brennaman, will make an appearance with the Kid Glove Program, according to our news partners at WCPO-TV.

The parade will also pay tribute to Cincinnati area Olympians Nick Goepper, Joe Hudepohl, David Payne, Mary Wineburg, and George Wilson.

Mayor Aftab Pureval and Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine will also participate.


The parade is scheduled to start at noon, according to WCPO-TV.
