Premier Health to sell land below market value to Middletown for future fire station site

MIDDLETOWN — The city of Middletown awaits approval to purchase 2.7 acres of land from Premier Health after the medical network agreed to sell it at a “deeply discounted” price.

According to our news partners at WCPO, Premier Health/Atrium Medical Center may sell the land for $80,000 an acre. During a city council meeting, City Manager Jim Palenick said the price is well below the market value, as similar land has sold for $200,000 an acre.

Middletown has planned to use the land, located at Ohio 122 and Atrium Boulevard, as a site for a new fire station.

Palenick said the land could cost the city $216,000 or $250,000, but that is if the land surveys at more than 2.7 acres.

City documents report that the city council is scheduled to vote on the emergency resolution during their May 4 meeting.

The city has proposed to relocate Station 82 from Dixie Highway to the land on Atrium Boulevard and Ohio 122.

Additionally, Palenick said the city has proposed to move three other stations to separate parcels of land that they own in hopes to improve response times.

Funding for the proposed relocations could end up on the Nov. 2 general election ballot in the form of a capital tax levy.
