Man arrested after attempted bank robbery in Dayton

DAYTON — UPDATE @ 10:50 a.m. (May 2):

Dayton police arrested a 30-year-old man in connection to an attempted robbery at a downtown Chase Bank Tuesday, according to a police incident report.

John Searls was arrested in the 200 block of East Third Street about five minutes after the attempted robbery was reported at the bank, jail records indicate.

Searls has been booked on a preliminary charge of robbery and remains an inmate at the Montgomery County Jail.

FIRST REPORT (May 1):

Police responded to a report of an attempted robbery at the Chase Bank on 40 North Main Street Tuesday morning.

Authorities were dispatched to the scene around 11:05 a.m. and initial reports indicate no money was taken.
