18-year-old booked into jail on murder charge in Dayton shooting

An 18-year-old man has been jailed on a preliminary charge of murder in the Nov. 14 shooting of a woman in Dayton, according to police.

Jayland D. Redd was arrested by Dayton police Tuesday morning at a home on Lorenz Avenue, jail records indicate.

Wednesday afternoon, police confirmed Redd was arrested in the fatal shooting of 37-year-old La’Peetra Dawson, who was struck down by gunshots fired from outside a home on Millicent Avenue just before midnight.

A police spokesperson confirmed murder and firearms related charges have been approved.

Redd was also wanted in a pursuit and crash Nov. 24 that ended on Kitridge Road in Huber Heights, according to police scanner traffic Monday.
