Victim ID’d in fatal shooting on Whitmore Avenue Saturday

DAYTON — UPDATE 10/18 @ 9:15 a.m.:

The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim in Saturday’s fatal shooting.

Marlon Lewis of Dayton, was killed in the shooting on Whitmore Avenue. He was 24-years-old.

INITIAL REPORT:

A man was killed in a shooting on Whitmore Avenue this evening, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

Officers responded to the 500 block of Whitmore Avenue around 6:20 p.m. after the shooting victim was first taken by a friend to a nearby fire station for help, according to records.

“My friend just got just shot," the 911 caller told dispatchers. “He’s not responding.”

Coroner’s office officials said the victim died at Miami Valley Hospital. His name has not been released.

“I was in the house and all I heard was gunshots,” the 911 caller said. “I came outside and he’s on the ground shot.”

Multiple evidence markers were scattered across the shooting scene on Whitmore as detectives collected evidence connected to the shooting.
