Man struck, thrown in air on Springfield street, witness says

SPRINGFIELD — UPDATE @ 7:15 p.m. (Dec. 2):

A man who was thrown six feet into the air Sunday after he was hit by a small SUV while crossing the street is to blame for the crash, Springfield police said.

The man was hit around 2:40 p.m. in the 1500 block of East Main Street, in front of Domino’s.

“He was at fault,” Springfield police Sgt. Jason Byron said. “The pedestrian was in the street.”

It is not clear whether the man will be cited.

UPDATE @ 4:15 p.m.:

A worker from a nearby Domino’s reported that the victim was thrown into the air after being struck.

The worker reported seeing the victim fly six feet into the air.

The victim was crossing the road when he was struck by a vehicle.

There is no word currently on the victim’s injuries.

INITIAL REPORT:

A pedestrian was struck on East Main Street in Springfield.

Reports from Springfield police indicate that the pedestrian was injured, but the extent of the injuries was not available.

Scanner traffic indicates CareFlight may be on standby for the victim.

The strike occurred around 2:40 p.m. in the 1500 block.
