According to dispatch records, a vehicle struck the fire hydrant, and officials are concerned that the water flow may have eroded soil under the pavement.

Beavercreek Police Officer James Burton said that after the vehicle hit the hydrant, it broke it off of the water main. He said that he believed that the driver was impaired.

Burton estimated that the road would be closed for 3-4 hours while repair crews dug out the road, fixed the pipe, and repaired the hole. This will likely include shutting off the water supply in the area, he said.
