MONTGOMERY COUNTY — UPDATE @ 1 p.m.:
Power has been restored to most AES Ohio customers in the Clayton area following an outage Wednesday morning that forced Northmont to dismiss two schools early.
As of 1 p.m., only 88 outages remain in Montgomery County, down from the previous report of over 1,800 when the outage was first reported around 9 a.m..
Northmont Middle and High schools were dismissed early Wednesday due to the power outage, according to district representatives. The outage knocked out electricity to both school buildings, forcing the early dismissal, a district spokesperson told News Center 7.
The source of the outage was a crash reported near Northmont High School, according to an AES Ohio spokesperson. Crews were on the scene by 10 a.m. working on making repairs.

FIRST REPORT:
A power outage reported near Clayton Wednesday morning has knocked out power to just over 1,800 AES Ohio customers, according to an online outage map.

Reports started around 9 a.m. of a power outage in the Clayton area, with police dispatched to the intersection of U.S. 40 and state Route 49 on reports the traffic lights were not functioning.

As of 9:30 a.m., 1,802 AES Ohio customers were listed without power, according to the company’s online outage map.
The source of the outage was not immediately known.
The company’s outage map estimates power will be restored around 11 a.m.
