If you hear or see police activity at the National Guard armory on Thursday, don’t be alarmed — it’s the “Operation Piqua Defender” exercise to test the readiness of law enforcement in the event of an emergency.
Police Chief Bruce Jamison said the exercise involving a violent intruder in the Piqua National Guard Armory, on East Ash Street, is geared toward enhancing internal and law enforcement responses to such incidents.
The police department will interact with armory staff, using realistic response tactics, to test the abilities of both organizations to perform in the event of an actual emergency.
Armory personnel, Bravo Battery, 1/137 Field Artillery, the 1487th Transportation Company, the armory recruiting office and the police department will participate in the exercise.
