Ohio unemployment claims rise as 2021 begins

Both initial and continued unemployment claims are up this week as the first unemployment numbers are released for the new year.

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported 29,709 Ohioans filed initial claims last week, which is a slight increase from the week before.

Continued claims were up to 274,460.

The state has paid out $7.7 billion to Ohioans for unemployment compensation.
