ODOT: Stay alert, reduce speed, be prepared during winter construction

While some construction projects are wrapping up, other’s will continue through the winter until they’re done.

News Center 7's Kayla Courvell spoke with drivers on how they plan to get around the construction.

According to the Ohio Department of Transportation, construction on state Route 48 in Kettering is expected to wrap up next week, but with the potential for a wintry mix later this week, driving through the area could become dangerous.

“You gotta zig zag through,” Tyson Thomas said. “It’s a hassle.”

Thomas said he drives through construction on a daily basis, and is use to the lane closures and changes, but is reconsidering where he’s driving due to the potential weather.

“If they continue this construction, with the ice and stuff, I fear for my car,” he said. “It seems like the past couple years, it’s been non stop construction.”

Other construction areas such as the Benchwood Road ramp to I-75 and Stanley Avenue will be closed until December.

ODOT is reminding the public to stay alert in these construction areas, especially in inclement weather, and to reduce speed and be prepared to stop.
