The crash happened at the intersection of Dayton-Liberty Road and Liscum Drive around 6:50 a.m. Witnesses reported to police a car was traveling at a high-rate of speed, passed a car stopped at a stop sign, ran the stop sign, and crashed into another car going through the intersection, Dayton police Sgt. Creigee S. Coleman said.

Witnesses reported to police the at-fault driver was traveling around 90 mph when they ran the stop sign and caused the crash, Coleman said.

The car legally traveling through the intersection had three people inside, including two children. One child was thrown from the car by the force of the crash while fire crews used extraction tools to free the other two from the wreckage.

All four people in the crash were taken to area hospitals with injuries described as non-life threatening, Coleman said.

“The witnesses on scene were very valuable with providing information to this incident which led us to find out exactly what happened. Again that lady was traveling 90 miles an hour. A person was driving 90 mph through an intersection, and then caused this crash,” Coleman said.

A posted speed limit sign was listed at 40 mph in the area where the crash happened.

Alcohol and excessive speed have been ruled as contributing factors in the crash, Coleman said.

Crash witnesses told News Center 7′s Kayla McDermott they helped the child who was thrown from the car after the crash.

“The two kids they probably couldn’t be any older than six. He was able to wrap his head in a towel because he was bleeding,” the witness, who declined to be identified told McDermott.

“It pretty much shook my house. It woke me up out of a dead sleep. My husband, he was in tears because he wasn’t sure what the outcome would be.

The driver who caused the crash could face charges and citations for causing the crash and driving under the influence. However, any potential charges are still pending a full investigation by the Dayton police Traffic Services Unit, Coleman said.

Additional details were not released.
