10 dogs killed in fire that left house with extensive damage

A house fire killed 10 dogs in Miami County on Saturday.

Emergency crews responded to the rural house fire in the 300 block of South Stichter Road between Pleasant Hill and Ludlow Falls around 1:45 p.m.

According to Pleasant Hill Fire Chief Jeff Alexander, 20 dogs total were in the house during the fire that originated in the kitchen. Only 10 dogs survived.

The homeowner was able to escape the home uninjured by the time crews arrived.

The damage estimate was unknown, but Alexander said it was “pretty extensive.”

Pleasant Hill fire Department along with mutual aid from other departments responded to the scene, according to Miami County dispatchers.
