More than a dozen graves damaged at Springfield cemetery; Families heartbroken

SPRINGFIELD — More than a dozen graves were destroyed at Rose Hill Burial Park in Springfield.

Tire tracks, broken headstones — families expressed their heartbreak over their loved ones’ graves being destroyed.

A driver tore through several areas of the cemetery, running over graves and damaging headstones.

Lawrence Hall spent part of his Sunday visiting loved ones who were laid to rest here.

Hall said his grandfather, aunts and uncles, and his grandson are all buried at Rose Hill.

Thankfully, none of their graves were destroyed, but he can’t imagine who would do something like this.

“No respect at all for anybody, not even for themselves,” Hall told News Center 7′s Kayla McDermott.

One woman went live on Facebook, documenting her nep hew’s headstones in pieces.

That woman was Rachel Sweatfield, and she said her heart broke when she saw his grave.

She said she spent more than three hours trying to pick up the pieces.

“I instantly cried. The damage just to the headstones ... them being destroyed, being run over, just blatant, belligerent disrespect,” she said.

Disrespect that Hill said, should come with consequences.

As of right now, it is not known who damaged the graves or why.

News Center 7 reached out to Clark County Sheriff’s office for details about the vandalism, but have not heard back at this time.

We will update this story once we learn more.
