With all of the snow the Miami Valley has seen within the past week, crews have stayed busy working to clear streets.
However, more snow means more salt, and some areas are seeing that their salt supply is beginning to run low.
Both the city of Beavercreek and Clearcreek Township are facing a low supply and say they have ordered more salt but are unsure exactly when they will receive their next shipment.
As a result, they have had to use the salt that they do have sparingly.
Clearcreek Township’s Administrator, Matt Clark, said they have considered other alternatives to help increase the supply.
“We have enough for another two storms if we were to lay salt like we typically do. Considering alternate treatment options, such as adding sand,” Clark said.
Even though some cities are facing a low salt supply, some areas still have plenty left.
Centerville’s Public Works Director, Pat Turmboll, said that they even have more salt on the way.
“We have about 1/3 of that bin still full of salt. It holds about 2,000 tons and we are at about 700 right now,” Turmboll said.
Turmboll still encourages people to continue driving safely on the roads, even in areas where there is a safe supply of salt.
“Just take it slow, and when you see those flashing lights – the salt and plow trucks – give them space and let them do their work and be safe, so you can be safe,” Turmboll said.
