‘Broke the mile record, can’t wait to eat turkey;’ Miamisburg Turkey Trot returns

MIAMISBURG — It’s Thanksgiving and the Miamisburg Turkey Trot returned in person this year since the pandemic.

Runners were in Miamisburg for the five mile race Thursday morning that started at the Baum Opera House.

News Center 7′s Kayla McDermott says the runners had to pay a fee to compete and their money went to a good cause.

The race benefits the non-profit Ohio River Road Runner’s Club.

They are dedicated to providing free and low cost races to children and adults all over the Miami Valley, as well as encouraging healthy lifestyles.

Some runners told McDermott they know they could be home inside warm and eating, they would rather be at the Turkey Trot because it’s tradition.

“I think it shows how important health and well-being is to them,” said Amanda Aubrey, Turkey Trot volunteer. “They want to come out and take care of themselves before they spend time with their family.”

McDermott spoke with the five-mile run winner, Jason Sayler, who did it in under 25 minutes.

“Feel great!” he said. “I broke the mile record and I can’t wait to go home and eat some turkey.”
