Miami Valley colleges return to class for spring semester, COVID-19 pushes some changes

Some Miami Valley colleges will be returning for the spring semester this week. Some schools plan on returning in person while another goes remote.

Wright State University, Sinclair Community College, and the University of Dayton all announced they will be returning to the classroom starting today, January 10.

Cedarville University will be returning in person tomorrow, January 11.

Wittenberg University announced last December they will be starting this spring semester with remote learning with in-person learning starting on January 18.

University officials announced the change citing the recent COVID-19 case spike in the region.

University of Dayton officials said some requirements and protocols will be adjusted to account for the recent spike.

“This approach is based on the specific UD context and our knowledge about how remote learning, especially at the start of the semester, can create significant, long-term academic and life challenges for many students,” university officials said in a message to campus members.

Wright State will be offering the same mix of in-person and remote class offerings that were available during the fall semester, a university spokesperson previously told News Center 7.
