The crash was reported around 7:50 a.m. on the eastbound I-70 exit ramp to state Route 54 in Harmony Twp., in eastern Clark County. Initial reports indicate the pickup truck crashed into the semi “at full speed,” according to emergency scanner traffic.
The driver of the pickup truck, who was not identified, was flown to a Dayton hospital by a CareFlight medical helicopter for treatment of serious injuries, state troopers said.
The eastbound lanes of I-70 were shut down for about 30 minutes while the medical helicopter landed on the highway to take the injured driver to the hospital. All lanes of I-70 reopened around 8:45 a.m. The exit ramp was blocked for the crash investigation but reopened late Wednesday morning.
The driver of the semitrailer was not injured in the crash.
State troopers are investigating if the driver of the pickup truck fell asleep before crashing into the truck. Other factors are still under investigation.
