UPDATE: Sheriff IDs 11-year-old boy killed in Miami County crash Monday

MIAMI COUNTY — UPDATE @ 4:10 p.m.

The Miami County Sheriff’s Office said Jennifer Hughes are her 12-year-old son were flown by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital with serious injuries. Both of them are from Troy.

The driver of the dump truck had minor injuries. Investigator said no drugs or alcohol are suspected in the crash. Charges have not been approved yet.

An 11-year-old was killed in the crash near the intersection of East Peterson and Troy-Sidney roads Monday afternoon, according to the Miami County Sheriff’s Office

Grant Gillespie, of Troy, was identified as the victim killed in the crash, Miami County Sheriff Dave Duchak said in a media release Tuesday.

The crash was reported at the Miami County intersection around 12:20 p.m. after a dump truck and SUV collided.

Two other occupants in the SUV were injured in the crash and were flown to an area hospital by a medical helicopter, Duchak said.

Potential factors in the crash were not released and were still under investigation.
