Sheriff’s office identifies four people killed in Urbana U.S. 68 crash

URBANA — The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of the four people killed in a head-on crash on U.S. 68 Saturday night.

The crash happened around 7 p.m. in the area of U.S. 68 and Hickory Grove Road in Urbana.

A white Toyota Highlander was heading north on U.S. 68, when a white SUV crossed the center line and hit them head-on, the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

“There’s seven in the one vehicle that’s off the road. And there’s one that’s still on the road,” a 911 caller said. “Looks like they’re trying to do CPR on the one of them.”

Four of the occupants in the SUV died at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.

Robert T. Whitt, 24, Timothy J. Whitt, 31, Amber N. Whitt, 33, and Immanuel J. Burchnell, 13, were identified as the victims inside of the Suzuki that were killed in the crash. The victims were all from Springfield.

The driver and one other occupant of the SUV were taken to Urbana Hospital for their injuries. A child from the SUV was taken to Dayton Children’s Hospital by medical helicopter.

The sheriff’s office identified the injured occupants as Mindy Scott, 26, Christiana Burchnell, 11, and Zachariah Billingsley, who was one.

The people inside of the Toyota Highlander were identified as Richard Snyder, age 63, of Urbana and Debra Snyder, age 65, of Urbana. They were taken to an area hospital for treatment of their injuries, the sheriff’s office said.

The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office and the Champaign County Coroner’s Office are investigating the crash.
