WAPAKONETA — A 20-year-old man who pleaded guilty to a downtown Wapakoneta apartment complex fire was sentenced to nearly two decades in prison.
Wesley Slaughter will serve 19 years in prison for the Koneta Hotel fire and was ordered to pay $32,296. 38 in restitution, as well as court fees, according to Auglaize County Common Pleas Court records.
Slaughter was convicted of five counts of aggravated arson after pleading guilty in July.
He previously pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.
The Dec. 23 fire displaced nearly 30 people and also affected a barbershop inside the building.
The residents, who were able to escape the fire unharmed, were taking to a nearby hotel for temporary housing.
