Man pleads guilty to charges in cousin’s shooting death

DAYTON — A Dayton man scheduled to go on trial Monday for the shooting death of his cousin pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and tampering with evidence.

Dwayne R. Marshall, 31, is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 2.

The involuntary manslaughter charge has a three-year firearm specification.

Marshall shot and killed his cousin, 26-year-old Dante Jones, during an argument in July 2017, according to Dayton police.

Marshall left the scene at Catalpa Drive, but later turned himself in.

Jones died from a single gunshot wound.

Marshall was originally indicted on murder, felonious assault and tampering with evidence charges in April.

His trial was scheduled to begin Monday morning, but Marshall pleaded guilty to a lesser charges.
