1 killed, 2 injured in weather-related crash in Preble County Thursday

PREBLE COUNTY — A passenger in a car was killed and two drivers were injured in a Preble County crash Thursday night blamed partially on weather conditions.

Justin Barcy, 26, of Greenville was identified as the passenger in the car who was pronounced dead at the scene after the two-vehicle crash on U.S. 127 just south of I-70, Preble County Sheriff Mike Simpson said in a media release.

A preliminary investigation found a Ford Taurus, driven by Gilliajn Barcy, 20, of Greenville, was traveling north of U.S. 127 when she lost control of the car around 9:48 p.m. The car went over the centerline and crashed head-on into a pickup truck traveling south.

Gilliajn was transported to Kettering Medical Center by MedFlight medical helicopter with serious injuries, Simpson said. The driver of the pickup, identified as Josef Pfister, 50, of Utica, Ohio, was transported to Reid Hospital in Richmond with non-life threatening injuries.

Simpson said snow on the roadway was a contributing factor in Gilliajn losing control of the vehicle.

Deputies closed U.S. 127 into early Friday morning to investigate the crash.

Additional details were not released.
