Driver in custody after running from troopers, crashing in Vandalia

VANDALIA — One person is in custody after police said they ran from a traffic stop and eventually crashed in Vandalia Saturday.

Saturday morning the Dayton Dispatch Center was alerted of a black Jeep that was driving recklessly on I-75, according to an Ohio State Highway Patrol spokesperson.

Around 10 a.m. troopers from the Dayton post of OSP saw the black Jeep and attempted to stop it.

The Jeep did not stop and troopers chased the car for five minutes before losing sight of it, OSP said.

Around 20 minutes later troopers were made aware of a crash on I-75 northbound near National Road involving a car that matched the description of the black Jeep.

Troopers said the car hit the concrete median wall and went off the ride side of the roadway into an embankment.

The driver of the black Jeep ran from the scene and was arrested a short time later by Vandalia Police Department.

The driver is facing preliminary charges of failure to comply and will be booked into Montgomery County Jail, according to OSP.
