MONTGOMERY COUNTY — A Mad River Local Schools teacher was arrested Thursday as part of a months-long child exploitation investigation.

John Stalcup, 63, of Springboro, was arrested and charged with disseminating matter harmful to a juvenile, according to a release from the Miami Valley Human Trafficking Task Force (MVHTTF).

An investigation into Stalcup began after investigators received a tip from an out-of-state law enforcement agency regarding suspected child exploitation.
During the investigation, Stalcup allegedly communicated online with a person he believed to be a 15-year-old girl. The MVHTTF confirmed the person was actually one of their undercover detectives.
As part of the investigation, a search warrant was also executed at his Springboro home.
News Center 7 reached out to Mad River Local Schools about Stalcup, who is listed as a career tech teacher at Stebbins High School.
In a statement, a district spokesperson confirmed Stalcup was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation being conducted by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
