Longtime Troy mayor honored by sister city of Japan

Longtime Troy Mayor Peter Jenkins, who died in November, was remembered this weekend, according to News Center 7's Northern Bureau Chief Steve Baker.

A representative from Troy’s sister city of Takahashi City, Japan made a trip to lay flowers on Jenkins grave and to meet with his widow, Ruth.

Troy and Takahashi City became sister cities in 1989.

As mayor, Jenkins was a strong supporter of the concept of encouraging a student exchange program, sending delegations back and forth and promoting Japanese industries in the the Miami Valley.

The city of Troy is preparing to send a delegation of city officials to Japan this spring, and Takahashi City is preparing to send students to Troy for a week this summer.
