Springfield fire crews were dispatched to the White Castle at the 1900 block of Bechtel Avenue at around 7:50 a.m.
The cause of the fire was from a fryer, crews tell News Center 7.
“There is significant damage to the fryer appliance and other appliances as well,” said Dan Faust, Springfield Fire Department Battalion Chief. “There is significant smoke and water damage so the store is going to be shut down for a while.”
Employees evacuated when they saw flames inside the restaurant. No one was hurt, Faust said.
It took about 20 minutes for the fire to be contained.
The estimated damage has not yet been determined.
No word yet on when the store will be reopened.
