The new development will be called the Convergence Research Center.

“What we’re building will be space for laboratory environments, research and development,” Synergy’s CEO Jerad Barnett said. “Synergy is coming to build this, to allow people and businesses, industry and the Air Force, academia all to come together, so they’re going to have collaborative workspaces.”

Congressman Mike Turner attended the announcement, calling the research center a huge investment benefitting the Miami Valley.

“Just the buildings alone are going to be over $250 million worth of development that you have. Of course, of all the equipment, the jobs themselves, the revenue that’s going to be generated,” Turner said.

Turner said the expansion will create 3,000 new jobs.

He told News Center 7′s Mason Fletcher that bringing new jobs is a high priority for him, and that last year they celebrated doubling the amount of jobs on base.

The new buildings will provide much needs space, especially since Washington D.C. officials are bringing federal employees back in the office.

Turner said that right now, there is enough room for everyone to be in person, but that the added space is still needed.

“Right now there is, but that’s why this project is going to be really important because we need to make certain that we have space at the base to keep people to be able to expand and grow,” Turner said.

Construction is expected to begin this summer and the first building will be done in 2027, according to Barnett.
