Local businesses affected after Kettering DP&L substation power outage

Dozens of local business were empty Monday morning waiting for the lights to come back on after power was knocked out to nearly 23,000 customers.

News Center 7's Adam Marshall spoke with some businesses that explained what they had to do when the power went out.

The owner of Tropical Smoothie Café in Oakwood explained how no power means no customers.

“When power goes down in my business,” Chris Becker said, “I’ve got to shut down.”

He also said he must consider his employees.

“I’m going to have three more people showing up here in roughly 20 minutes. I don’t want to send them home. They depend on what I pay them to pay their bills.”

A few other businesses that were without power this morning include Dorothy Lane Market, Tim Horton’s and Starbucks.

Power was out for roughly three hours before being fully restored.
