Investigators said the father, who was not identified, suffered burns while rescuing the children from the fire.

All three were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The children were only taken for precautionary reasons, said Scott Sells of the Mad River Twp. Fire Department.

Sells said that crews responded to the fire in the 7000 block of Emerald Avenue in Enon around 4:50 a.m. and saw heavy flames coming out of the back of an apartment.

The apartment sustained heavy smoke damage and minor fire damage, Sells said.

Fire officials wouldn’t say what they believe caused the fire that displaced five people, but an arson investigator was called.
