Police on scene told News Center 7 that an initial investigation showed that two cars may have been racing eastbound on Springfield Street prior to the crash. Police said one of the two cars tried to pass the other and side-swiped a UPS truck. This caused the that car to hit the car it was racing, as well as another car.

Police said the occupants of the car that started the crash ran away from the scene.

Dispatch records initially showed that at least two people were transported by medics to local hospitals. One person was taken to Miami Valley Hospital and another, a juvenile, was transported to Dayton Children’s Hospital. Their conditions are unknown.

WHIO checked back with dispatch later in the evening and learned that a third person was transported from the scene to Miami Valley Hospital. Their condition is unknown at this time.
