“It’s never worth it to get behind the wheel if you are drunk,” said Lottie Summers from Cincinnati.
On Halloween, kids get dressed up in costumes and walk around neighborhoods asking for candy.
Summers said kids aren’t the only ones having a good time; it can become a safety issue.
“I mean, people just generally shouldn’t drink and drive. And when there’s holidays where people are going to a lot of parties, that tends to be what happens, so,” Summer said.
As the Halloween weekend quickly approaches, grants like these have the potential to help officers and deputies patrol the roads better and keep trick-or-treaters safe.
“The grant provides funding for us to increase enforcement during that period, which would allow us to have more officers on the roadway looking for unsafe drivers,” said Sergeant Cherish Isaacs of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
Tyler Boyd said more law enforcement on the road means more people may think twice before driving while under the influence.
“I think all those roadblocks where they do the checks, where they do the sobriety checks on the street, that keeps a lot of, you know, people off the streets from driving drunk,” Boyd said.
Boyd was in the area attending a convention.
“Is Halloween weekend, so all the kids are outside trying to get their candy. So, we gotta prioritize their safety as well as ours,” Boyd said.
Boyd said people celebrating Halloween should have fun but be responsible.
