Dayton Police officers were called to the 400 block of Linden Avenue around 11:30 a.m. to initial reports of a person in the building with a gun, according to initial scanner traffic.

News Center 7′s Mike Campbell reported one of the two people arrested police believed to be involved around Davis and Linden Avenues.

They had also had a report that the other person ran into the Davis-Linden Building and that prompted an hours-long search. But in the end, they realized the person was not there and arrested that person in Centerville Saturday evening.

Campbell said Dayton Police backed up by Centerville and Kettering Police officers converged at the Crosspoint Shopping Center on E. Alex Bell Road around 6 p.m.

They would shut down a Great Clips store and walk out with a second man believed to be involved in the deadly Dayton shooting.

“It’s kind of scary because we were going in there,” a woman told News Center 7.

Campbell said Dayton officers were spotted escorting a man into the safety building in Downtown Dayton about 15 minutes later.

The deadly shooting happened at about 11:30 a.m. Saturday morning and Dayton Police received calls of people arguing and fighting.

“There were people in the street that were fighting and then during that fight, there were shots fired,” said Major Christopher Malson, Dayton Police. “When our officers arrived, there were still shots being fired at that point.”

One arrested was made right away by Dayton Police.

Campbell said they discovered a dead victim near a car and a bullet hole was spotted in the passenger side window.

Dayton Police was also told a man with a rifle had run inside the Davis-Linden Building.

That’s when they called officers from across Montgomery County and two SWAT teams to set a perimeter and begin searching for the gunman.

Drone images from Sky 7 show an incredibly huge task it would be as the four-story, rectangular, blocks-long building is a former warehouse now divided into hundreds of offices and rooms.

Campbell says after hours of searching, Dayton Police developed information that their second suspect had slipped away by possibly changing clothes inside and leaving.

Malson said the man entered the building near a motorcycle shop.

“So, there’s a motorcycle shop in there,” he said. “I can’t say it’s directly involved, there’s a lot of shops in there.”

Dayton Police say the investigation will be led by the homicide squad.

They said it’s too early to say if this is a workplace shooting or just an instance of violence that happened near a workplace.

Campbell said even after the search was called off at the Davis-Linden Building, Dayton Police had detectives outside gathering evidence that could be helpful for the investigation.

They also had officers inside doing the same thing.
