1 killed in single-vehicle wreck in Trotwood

One person died in a single-vehicle crash in Trotwood Wednesday night.

  • Crash closed West Third Street for several hours
  • Driver died at Miami Valley Hospital
  • Police locate suspect vehicle involved in crash

UPDATE @ 12 p.m. (Oct. 1)

Dayton police say the man who died was the passenger of vehicle. The driver, whose name has not been released, remains in critical condition at Miami Valley Hospital.

Officers did locate the black Chevrolet pickup that struck the car and left the scene about 20-30 minutes after the crash. The pickup was reported stolen out of Miami County.

The people in the two vehicles did not know each other, police said.

Police say the pickup was traveling east on West Third Street and tried to make a left turn onto Elkins Avenue and turned in front of the car, which tried to avoid the collision.

The crash victim has been identified as Darnel McCoy, 27, of the Dayton area.

One person has died in the traffic accident last night along West Third Street, which left the car wrapped around a pole.

A Montgomery County Coroner’s Office investigator said the victim’s name would not be released until the next of kin is notified.

The investigator did reveal that the victim is a male believed to be in his 30s, who was was brought to the coroner’s office from Miami Valley Hospital about 9:45 p.m.

An autopsy is scheduled for sometime today, the investigator said.

We’re hearing that police are looking for a suspect vehicle believed to have been involved in the accident. That vehicle, believed to have been stolen and bearing stolen license tags, left the scene headed toward Jefferson Twp., we’re told.

UPDATE @ 9:26 p.m. (Sept. 30)

Witnesses tell us a second vehicle may have been involved in the accident that left a car wrapped around a pole along West Third Street.

Police offered no comment to either corroborate or knock down the witness comments.

Officers tell us the department will make no comment about tonight’s accident until sometime Thursday.

West Third, in the area of Pomeroy and Elkins avenues, remains shut down until further notice.

FIRST REPORT

Police and a medic crew are at a single-vehicle accident along West Third Street, in the area of Pomeroy and Elkins avenues.

Westbound West Third Street has been shut down because of the accident.

Crews were dispatched about 8:14 p.m.
