Judge Walter H. Rice, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, was feted tonight for his more than 45 years of service to the judiciary and the Dayton community.
He was joined at the Dayton Art Institute by hundreds of friends, admirers and well-wishers
U.S. Rep. Michael Turner and Sens. Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman each recorded video messages for the judge that were to be presented during the evening.
The evening featured a tribute by Brad Tillson, former president and CEO of Cox Ohio Publishing and publisher of the Dayton Daily News.
The event also included the presentation of the courtroom portrait of Judge Rice by Honorable Chief Judge Edmund A Sargus Jr. of the district court.
Judge Rice’s numerous honors include his being named the recipient of the Thomas J. Moyer Award for judicial excellence in 2014, and honorary degrees from the University of Dayton (Doctor of Laws) in 1991 and Wright State University (Doctor of Humane Letters) in 2000.
