Isolated strong storms leave damage, hail behind in Miami Valley

MIAMI VALLEY — Hail, heavy rain and downed trees were reported in parts of Miami Valley after isolated thunderstorms hit the region Saturday.

Around 6:45 p.m. the National Weather Service reported a large tree was uprooted by high winds in Darke county.

Mothball-sized hail was also reported by the NWS in Xenia around 7:15 p.m.

Trees were downed across Montgomery County in the areas of Maplehurst Avenue, Garment Avenue, North Diamond Avenue and Elsmere Avenue, according to emergency scanner traffic.

South of the Miami Valley in Cincinnati, concert-goers at Paul Brown Stadium were told to talk shelter around 7 p.m.

A “Severe Weather Alert” on the screen said, “For the safety of yourself and others, please take cover by proceeding to the nearest concourse, ramp or stairway.”

The strong weather is expected to fizzle out Saturday night by 10 p.m., according to Storm Center 7 meteorologist Robert Gauthreaux.
