Search for 6-year-old James Hutchinson continues, body still not recovered

LAWRENCEBURG, INDIANA — UPDATE: 5:30 PM

Preble County Sheriff, Mike Simpson, confirmed with News Center 7 that the search site in Lawrenceburg, Indiana is cleared for the day with no recovery of James Hutchinson’s body.

We will continue to update this story as we receive new information on the search for Hutchinson’s body.

INITIAL REPORT:

The Butler County Sheriff’s Office is assisting in the continued search for 6-year-old James Hutchinson who was allegedly killed by his mother.

The search for Hutchinson was delayed most of the week due to high water, but crews are resuming the search Sunday.

According to police, Hutchinson’s body was dumped in the river at the I-275 bridge after he was killed in Preble County. Investigators allege his mother, Brittany Gosney, 29, attempted to abandon the boy and his two siblings at Rush Run Wildlife Area in Preble County in the early morning hours of Saturday, Feb. 27.

The investigation is centered in the Lawrenceburg, Indiana, area near the Ohio river, said the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.

Butler County sent a helicopter, a mobile command unit, and other equipment from the Sheriff’s Office Emergency Response Services (ERS) Unit.

“This is a multi-agency effort working together as one,” said Richard K. Jones, Butler County Sheriff.
