Butler County deputies are continuing to investigate a crash that injured seven people Monday night near the intersection of State Route 73 (Trenton Oxford Road) and Wehr Road in Wayne Twp.
In a statement released late Monday night, the Butler County Sheriff’s Office referred to the accident as a head-on collision that left several of the victims — two adults and five children — trapped in both vehicles.
Deputies on Tuesday could not release more specific information about the crash and the injured except that one driver was a woman from Middletown and the other a woman from Hamilton.
Four of the injured were taken to a Dayton hospital by medical helicopter and three were taken to area hospitals by ambulances.
Sgt. Jeff Schuster said Tuesday afternoon that all involved are still alive, but no specifics would be released until the crash report is completed and approved. The Butler County Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating.
The crash occurred just east of the intersection of Wehr Road, according to deputies. The site is near the Edgewood Middle School-Edgewood Elementary School complex.
That intersection is less than a mile from the Jacksonburg Road intersection where three fatal crashes — one in February and two in April — have occurred this year.
Deputies as well as fire and EMS units from Trenton, Wayne Twp., St. Clair Twp. and Seven Mile were dispatched about 7:35 p.m. Monday to the scene.
