Juvenile injured, 3 bail after crash; car may be involved in area break-ins

DAYTON — A 14-year-old was transported to Dayton Children’s Hospital and three others bailed following a crash on North Gettysburg Avenue early Monday morning.

The 2016 white Kia Rio involved in the crash may have been involved in several recent break-ins in the area, according to a Dayton police report.

Crews were dispatched to the area of North Gettysburg and Kammer avenues on a reported injury crash around 4 a.m.

Officials said the vehicle, which was reported stolen out of Trotwood, was traveling southbound on North Gettysburg when it jumped the median and hit a pole.

“There are people falling out of the car,” a witness reported in a 911 call.

There were four occupants inside of the vehicle and three fled the scene, authorities said.

The juvenile that did not flee was reportedly taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries because of the crash. It appeared he had suffered from a broken leg from the accident, according to the report.

A witness at the scene told police she observed three males crawl across North Gettysburg and get inside a dark colored SUV. She said the 14-year-old juvenile collapsed as he exited the car, according to the report.

The report indicated the Kia Rio was totaled.

The vehicle may have been involved in multiple break-ins in Sugarcreek Township and an attempted break-in at a Beavercreek gun store, according to the report.

Beavercreek Police Captain Chad Lindsey said officers are talking to Dayton police to see if the attempted break-in at Palmer Firearms and crash are connected.

There was a break-in at the Sugarcreek Twp. Target August 10.
