DAYTON — Coroner’s office investigators and Dayton police are working to determine how a person whose remains were discovered inside a Dayton home died.
The remains were removed from a home on Blanche Street Thursday and homicide detectives were investigating at the house for hours.
Police responded to the 800 block of Blanche around 1:50 p.m. after receiving a call from a woman to check on her ex-boyfriend who was reportedly last seen eight days ago, dispatch records show.
“Upon arrival officers did not receive an answer at the door and noted an odor coming from the home,” Dayton police said. “Entry was made into the structure with the assistance of Dayton Fire Department personnel to check on the safety of anyone who might have been inside. Once inside officers discovered the remains of the resident.”
Police said when they discovered the remains their also were “suspicious circumstances encountered” while investigating the death.
“At this time, investigators are working with the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office to determine the cause and manner of the death,” police said in a statement. “Given the unresolved questions present and the potential for this investigation to become a criminal matter, we will not be able to provide any additional information at this time.”
The name of the person whose remains were found was not released pending notification of family.
