UPDATE: Police searching for van after man’s remains found in Dayton home

DAYTON — Dayton police are working to determine how a person whose remains were discovered inside a Dayton home died and they also are looking for his van.

The remains of John Canfalone, 65, of Dayton were removed from a home on Blanche Street Thursday and homicide detectives were investigating at the house for hours.

“He had been deceased for some time,” said Dayton police Lt. Jason Hall.

Police responded to the 800 block of Blanche around 1:50 p.m. after receiving a call from a woman to check on her ex-boyfriend who was reportedly last seen eight days ago, dispatch records show.

“Upon arrival officers did not receive an answer at the door and noted an odor coming from the home,” Dayton police said. “Entry was made into the structure with the assistance of Dayton Fire Department personnel to check on the safety of anyone who might have been inside. Once inside officers discovered the remains of the resident.”

Police said when they discovered the remains their also were “suspicious circumstances encountered” while investigating the death.

“At this time I cannot say it’s a homicide, but I can most certainly say it’s a suspicious death,” Hall said.

Police are still looking for Canfalone’s 2006 green Dodge Caravan with license plate number HDV 3426.

If anyone knows where Canfalone’s van may be or have information on his death they are asked to contact police at 937-222-7867.
